Request a Zone 0 inspection in San Bernardino County

Tell us where your property is.

Quick answer: An inspection documents the 0 to 5 foot ember-resistant zone — fencing, gates, hardscape, and vegetation conditions — in a dated, photographed report. You choose and hire who does any resulting work.

What happens after you submit

1. We check your parcel. Your address is matched against CAL FIRE's 2025 Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps and your community's adopted local map, including the zones county fire designated by Ordinance 4489 in June 2025.

2. You get a plain-English rundown. Which tier you're in, which Zone 0 requirements apply, what your fire authority (county fire, a CAL FIRE contract city, or an independent department) will look for, and what is required, proposed, or recommended for you.

Questions

Quick answers

Which fire authority covers this mountain vs valley parcel?

San Bernardino County Fire covers district territory including the city of San Bernardino, Crestline, Lake Arrowhead, Wrightwood, and most unincorporated land. Highland and Yucaipa are CAL FIRE contract; Running Springs, Big Bear, Redlands, and Rancho Cucamonga run their own departments. The address check identifies the AHJ for your address.

Is Zone 0 required for my existing San Bernardino County home?

As of September 19, 2026 there is no statewide Zone 0 regulation in force. The Board of Forestry emergency filing (OAL 2026-0828-03E) was withdrawn September 8, 2026. AB 3074 directed the state to create an ember-resistant zone; that is not a current statewide rule requiring Zone 0 to be kept clear. Existing defensible-space law still applies: PRC section 4291 and Government Code section 51182, plus local defensible-space rules. Ordinance 4489 adopted FHSZ maps, not Zone 0. The first five feet is Recommended now.

Who can do fence work in the first five feet?

Hired fence work at $1,000 or more in labor and materials, work that needs a permit, or work that uses hired workers generally requires a CSLB license (Class C-13 for fencing). Owner-builder and minor-work exemptions can apply.
